We want to clarify a few points regarding your concerns:
First, at no point did we offer a discount on the electricity in exchange for a 5-star review. The $50 adjustment was offered simply to address your concerns about the electricity charge and ensure your stay was as comfortable as possible.
Regarding the electricity charge, this is clearly stated both in the listing under house rules and in the rental agreement. Guests can see that electricity is charged before they book. Nevertheless, if a guest did not notice this or misread the listing, we allow them to cancel the booking free of charge before their stay.
We charge for electricity strictly based on what the local provider bills us, passing on the actual usage costs to the guest. We do not profit from electricity consumption. Some guests use more, others less. We decided that billing for actual electricity usage is far fairer than adjusting the nightly rate to include an average usage, as this allows guests to control their costs.
